Turning the Tide: A Triumph of Clean Water and Hope in Dasht-e-Archi

In the heart of Dasht-e-Archi, a remote and long-suffering district nestled within Kunduz province, a remarkable transformation has been unfolding, thanks to the unwavering dedication of DACAAR. For two tumultuous decades, this land had been marred by the ravages of war, its people cut off from the world and facing a multitude of challenges. Amidst this adversity, one critical issue loomed larger than the rest: the absence of safe drinking water, coupled with poor hygiene and sanitation practices, gave rise to a persistent threat of waterborne diseases.

But hope emerged on the horizon, like a glimmering oasis in the desert. With the generous support of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the King Salman Humanitarian Trust Fund, DACAAR embarked on an ambitious mission. Their goal? To bring the gift of clean, life-sustaining water to the resilient souls of Wakil Qayoum village in Dasht-e-Archi district, benefiting a staggering 10,127 individuals.

Arbab Najeeb, a steadfast resident of Abdul Qayoum village, had borne witness to the struggle for decades. He recounted a history of dependence on canal water, tainted and treacherous. "For 30 to 40 years," he shared, "we've quenched our thirst with water from the canal, for there was no other source. Our bodies paid the price in the form of illnesses."

The hospitals echoed their diagnosis - unsafe drinking water was the root of their afflictions. Yet, they had no alternative. It was a cycle of suffering with no end in sight.

Then, like a beacon of hope, DACAAR arrived in their midst, poised to change their lives forever. Najeeb's voice was filled with newfound optimism as he explained, "Today, we stand on the brink of transformation. DACAAR is drilling a tube well and weaving a web of pipelines to carry the life-giving elixir to our doorsteps."

With deep gratitude in his heart, Najeeb extended his thanks to IsDB and the benevolent King Salman Relief for joining hands with DACAAR in this noble endeavour. Their sincere assistance had ignited a spark of hope in the hearts of Dasht-e-Archi's residents, illuminating a brighter future where safe drinking water would quench their thirst and wash away the spectre of waterborne diseases that had haunted them for far too long. Together, they had written a story of resilience, compassion, and triumph - a story that would resonate with the hearts of donors near and far, who had made this transformational journey possible.
